Getting Innovative with MTH, Part 1

August 7th, 2014 by

Although I am a professional music teacher, I like to challenge myself when using any computer program to get the most I can from it to help me with my daily tasks.  I have spent much of my early working life with computers, creating systems, writing manuals and teaching people how to use programs to get the best from them.

In a series of blogs called ‘Getting Innovative with MTH’, I am going to share some of my favourite workarounds that help me in Music Teacher’s Helper for a ‘One Stop’ approach for all my studio needs.

To Do List. Creative

To Do List

Creating a ‘To Do List’

I really do love the flexibility and powerful features within the MTH Calendar for scheduling all my students.

However, I also like a place to keep notes of things I still need to do, both from a personal point of view and for work related things (check dates for a new student, schedule a group session for my adult students, go to the dentist, etc).

So I have created a way which works for me.

I created a web page that only I can see, like this:

[Website, Pages, New Page], (inactive),
with a page name of ‘To Do List’, and suggested Page Order 1
(so it appears at the top of the list onscreen to make it easier to get to).

Once created, I add the things I need to remember and I use this to keep notes for my ‘to do list’ so I don’t forget anything important.

When I have actioned one of the things on the list, I just edit the web page and remove that item and add new ones as they come to mind, saving the web page once I have finished editing it.  Of course, I can do this from my computer anytime I am logged in, so it is very easy to add something I don’t want to forget.

Would that idea work for you too?

In my future blog posts ‘Getting Innovative with MTH, I will show you how I personally keep track of my Inventory (books for sale, etc) within MTH.  Also I will show you how I remember all my own personal appointments, family birthdays, etc. in my ‘One Stop’ approach.

So here is a challenge for all of you who are already using MTH.  What else would you like to be able to do in MTH and I will see if I can find a way to do it.  So please comment below and let me know what you would like to be able to do and I’ll put on my creative hat!
