The average time spent on a website is less than 60 seconds!

How can we, who have a website, possibly hope to engage with our audience and encourage them to want our services? There are some basic marketing techniques that can help our virtual “shop window” look attractive and encourage potential customers to “step inside.”

Put Your Feet in Their Shoes

The most effective way to present ourselves is to consider what information prospective clients want to know. Give them this information quickly and easily and their experience on your website will be satisfying. What do they want to know?

What instrument/s do you teach? Where are you located? How much do your lessons cost?

I just created a new website for my business and for the new podcast I recently launched, so internet marketing has been on my brain. I recently read a handy tip that if you can get your site address linked to as many websites as possible, you can not only get listed higher up in google, but also get some new traffic from those sites you linked to! So what’s a good way to get linked in? Set up profiles in every networking site you can think of. Linkedin, Facebook, Myspace, Biznik, Tribe are all great sites. Another great way to get linked is to write product reviews for sites like Amazon, Ebay, Sheet Music Plus, Musician’s Friend, and The iTunes Store.

All you need to do is set up an account in each of the shopping sites, find some products you have used, and write a smart and informative review. Don’t just write “great product!” or “This sucked!”. Really take the time to give a lot of good information. Don’t forget to include your website address in your signature and profile.  This is your opportunity for readers to see you as an expert in your field. If they are impressed and want to know more info on music, there is a good chance they will check out your website. Having lots of traffic to your site is important, because the more traffic you get, the higher up on the google site it will be. you definitely want that. Most people, when searching for anything on a search engine, will only visit the 1st two sites listed.

Good luck, and here’s my signature!
